Rollercoaster

I went to my first, and probably only, concert in Seoul a few weekends ago. The band was Rollercoaster, a trio that plays a goovey little mix of rock, pop, electonica, with hints of latin and ska thrown in. They are not particularly well known, as most popular music in Korea is in the vein of cheesy pop, hip hop, and ballad. So the show was small, just the way I like it. Oddly enough, it was held in a convention room, which mean no drinking and no smoking, a welcome change from the usual nighttime scene. (To come home NOT smelling like an ashtray is SO nice!)

Although there were probably only a few hundred people in the room, the energy was incredible -- this is clearly a band whose fans are devoted. And they put on a fantastic show! Most of their songs are upbeat and very danceable, and even though I couldn't exactly sing along to the Korean lyrics, I think I did pretty well in faking it. What a fun show...the band was very down to earth too, taking the time to talk to the fans in between songs, which I also understood none of.

These stunning pics, with the exception of the first, were all taken by Matthew. For more photos, check out his photo blog - www.projectseoul.com. Or to read his gushing uber-detailed review of the show, go to his website -- www.theturninggate.com

When Matt gets excited, he turns into a retarded alien.
Cho UnSun, the leader singer. She is absolutly GEORGOUS, and has amazing stage presence. Half the fun of the show was watching her.

It had been way to long since I have been to a show! Back in the day, I used to go to at least one or two a month, but that stopped somewhere around the time I started teaching.....hmmmm.....just one of the many fun things I had to give up when I was teaching in California. It's nice to have a job that lets me live my life again!
